John O. "Dubby" Wynne

John Dubby Wynne

John O. Wynne is the retired President and Chief Executive Officer of Landmark Communications, Inc., which has interests in newspapers, broadcasting, cable programming and electronic publishing.

In 1997, Wynne received the NCTA Vanguard Award for Programmers and the Governor’s Award from the National Academy of Cable Programming for “his leadership and insight in making The Weather Channel the preeminent provider of weather information, and one of the most innovative and popular networks on television...”

Wynne is Chairman of the Board, The Hampton Roads Community Foundation, and a member of the Board of Trustees, Princeton University. He is a Founding Member of the Hampton Roads Business Roundtable. He currently spends significant time on Reinvent Hampton Roads, an effort to strengthen Hampton Roads’ regional economy; and on a state initiative, GO Virginia, which will encourage collaborations to strengthen the economy of every region of the Commonwealth.

Wynne serves as Vice Chairman on the State-appointed Council on Virginia’s Future. He is a Member of the Virginia Business Higher Education Council. He has held numerous volunteer leadership positions with the University of Virginia, Princeton, and the state of Virginia, among others. He is a former Director and Executive Committee member of the National Cable Television Association and former Chair of the National Satellite Programmers Group.

Wynne received his BA from Princeton University and JD from the University of Virginia. Before joining Landmark, he was an attorney with Willcox & Savage. He and his wife, Susan, live in Virginia Beach and have two living children, four granddaughters and a grandson.

Tom Rogers

Tom Rogers is Chairman of TiVo. His career has operated at the nexus of media, technology, and public policy for more than two decades. With vast experience running traditional media and new media companies, and creating innovative business models for companies facing new challenges, Tom leads TiVo’s efforts to revolutionize the way consumers experience home entertainment. Under Tom’s leadership, TiVo has become the leader in providing operators worldwide with an advanced television user experience, provides consumers the only retail cable set top box, and serves the media industry with an array of TV audience research data solutions.

Prior to joining TiVo, Tom was President of NBC Cable and Executive Vice President of NBC, as well as NBC’s chief strategist. During his accomplished tenure at NBC, Tom founded CNBC, the nation’s leading business news channel and established the NBC/Microsoft cable channel, and Internet joint venture, MSNBC. In addition, he served as co-chairman of the Arts and Entertainment and History Channels, and was responsible for overseeing many other cable channels, including Court TV, Bravo, American Movie Classics, Independent Film Channel, the National Geographic Channel, and numerous regional sports channels. After NBC, Tom was Chairman and CEO of Primedia, which then was the leading targeted media company in the US, where he oversaw Cable World Magazine.

Prior to NBC, Tom was Senior Counsel to the U.S. House of Representatives Telecommunications, Consumer Protection and Finance Subcommittee, where he was responsible for drafting a number of communications laws, including the Cable Act of 1984, which liberated the industry from a patchwork of local regulatory burdens.

John D. Evans

John D. Evans, Chairman and CEO of Evans Telecommunications Company, is also best known as a co-founder and past Chairman of C-SPAN and still serves on CSPAN’s Board.

As a U.S. Navy Lieutenant, he served on the staff of the Chief of Naval Operations at the Pentagon and two aircraft carriers.

Evans began his career in 1972 and rose to regional manager of the largest operating region of what is now Time Warner Cable. As COO and investor with Arlington Telecommunications Corp., in 1978 he built the first cable television system in the Washington, D.C. area. After Hauser Communications acquired Arlington, Evans was named President, overseeing operations from 1983 to 1994. He served as president of the Washington Cable Club from 1980-2005.

He has served on the National Cable & Telecommunications Association Board for the past 34 years. He received the NCTA 1981 President's Award and the 1984 Vanguard Award for Young Leadership. He has been inducted into the Virginia Cable Telecommunications Association Hall of Fame and the Virginia Communications Hall of Fame.
As a “Patron of Diplomacy”, Evans serves on the US Department of State’s Fine Arts Committee and the US State Department’s Global Equality Fund. Through the John D. Evans Foundation, he is committed to social justice, AIDS vaccine research, environmental protection, technological innovation, education and the arts to improve mankind.

Evans graduated from the University of Michigan and serves on the President’s Advisory Group, School of Information and College of LS&A Dean’s Advisory Councils. He lives with his partner Steven Wozencraft and has two children, John Jr. and Courtenay.

Pat Esser

Patrick (Pat) Esser started his career in the cable industry more than 30 years ago climbing telephone poles and selling cable door to door. Today, as president of Cox Communications, a multi-service broadband communications and entertainment company, he has helped to shepherd both the company and industry through unprecedented opportunity and change. Cox is known for its broadband leadership and pioneering efforts in commercial services; customer care; cable telephone and creating outstanding workplaces. That pioneering spirit continues today with Pat and his leadership team’s commitment to industry-leading Gigabit broadband, smart home services and programmatic advertising.

Pat is always building for the future and looking to secure the next growth opportunity in areas such as expanded business telecom services, digital entertainment and healthcare. Among Pat’s proudest accomplishments are his hands-on work at Cox and throughout the industry to create more diversified and inclusive work environments and to use the company’s powerful broadband infrastructure to help close the digital divide among low income children. Cox’s work in these areas has been singled out by Women in Cable Telecommunications, Diversity Inc, FCC Chairman Tom Wheeler and President Obama. Pat has earned numerous recognitions including the industry highest accolade, the Distinguished Vanguard Award for Leadership given by the National Cable & Telecommunications Association.

Mika Brzezinski is the co-host of MSNBC’s Morning Joe and the author of three best-selling books. Her memoir All Things At Once became a New York Times best seller in January 2010. Her second book, Knowing Your Value, which examines the role of women in the workplace, reached #1 on the New York Times bestseller list for business books in 2011. Her third book, Obsessed: America’s Food Addiction and My Own, debuted on the bestseller list in spring of 2013. Most recently, Mika released Grow Your Value, which is a sequel to Knowing Your Value and explores the intersection between self-fulfillment, family, and career.

In 2014, Mika partnered with NBCUniversal to produce events based on Knowing Your Value throughout the country. Know Your Value is a nationwide effort focused on empowering women to express their worth in business and in life. Through these events, Mika will provide tangible, relatable advice that will support all women – at all ages and stages of their careers.

Prior to joining MSNBC in January of 2007, Mika was an anchor of CBS Evening News Weekend Edition and a CBS News correspondent who frequently contributed to CBS Sunday Morning and 60 Minutes. She reported live from Lower Manhattan for CBS News during the September 11, 2001 attacks.

A native of New York City, Mika is the daughter of Foreign Policy Expert and Former National Security Advisor Zbigniew Brzezinski. She is a member of the Council of Foreign Relations and a Williams College alum.

 

 

Joe Scarborough

Former Congressman Joe Scarborough (R-Fla.) is co-host of MSNBC’s Morning Joe alongside Mika Brzezinski, a show that Time Magazine calls “revolutionary.” Morning Joe features interviews with top newsmakers and in-depth analysis of the day’s biggest stories. The New York Times has ranked Morning Joe as one of today’s top morning news shows, and has praised Joe and Mika's natural repartee and off-the-cuff commentary. The New Yorker has described the show as "appallingly entertaining.”

Joe was named to the prestigious “Time 100” list of the world’s most influential people, and Vanity Fair named both Joe and Mika to their 2012 list of “Top Media Power Players.”

In addition to his career in television, Joe is a 2-time New York Times best-selling author. His first work, Rome Wasn’t Burnt in a Day, predicted the collapse of the Republican majority and U.S. economy due to his party's reckless spending. His second book, The Last Best Hope: Restoring Conservatism and America's Promise, draws on the forgotten genius of conservatism to offer a road map for the movement and the country.

Most recently, Joe released The Right Path: From Ike to Reagan, How Republicans Once Mastered Politics—and Can Again, which looks back in time to discern how Republicans once dominated American public life. From Eisenhower’s refusal to let “the perfect be the enemy of the good” to Reagan’s charismatic but resolutely practical genius, Joe shows how principled pragmatism combined with a commitment to core conservative values led to victory after victory.

Joe served as a member of Congress from 1994-2001. While in office, he was a member of the Judiciary, Armed Services, Oversight, and National Security committees.

Robert J. Stanzione

Robert J. (Bob) Stanzione is Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of ARRIS, a premier video and broadband technology company that transforms how service providers worldwide deliver entertainment and communications without boundaries. Its powerful end-to-end platforms enable service and content providers to improve the way people connect – with each other and with their favorite content. The Company's vision and expertise continue to drive the industry's innovations, as they have for more than 60 years.

In 1995, Bob was appointed President & CEO of ARRIS Interactive, LLC, a Nortel Networks/ANTEC joint venture. As ARRIS Interactive’s first CEO, Stanzione grew the venture from a start-up company to the world market leader in cable telephony products. In 1998 he became President, Chief Operating Officer and a Director of ANTEC and was appointed to the CEO role on January 1, 2000. In 2001, ANTEC acquired Nortel’s share of ARRIS Interactive and re-named the Company ARRIS Group, Inc. From 1969 to 1995, before joining ARRIS, Stanzione held a wide range of senior management positions with AT&T.

Bob holds a Bachelors degree in Mechanical Engineering from Clemson University, a Masters degree in Industrial Engineering from North Carolina State University and has completed executive development programs at the University of Richmond, Babson College and the International Institute for Management Development in Switzerland.

Bob is a Board Member of the National Cable & Telecommunications Association (NCTA). In June 2012, he was named to serve on The Cable Center Board of Directors. He served as a Director on the Board of Symmetricom, from May 2005 until December 2013. Bob was awarded the SCTE’s Chairman’s Award in 2008, the Vanguard Award for Associates & Affiliates in 2009, and was inducted into the Cable TV Pioneers in 2010.

Bob and his wife Kaye have three children and ten grandchildren.
