Urban Education Initiative: Production Workshop, Fall 2005

The Cable Center partnered with NBC Universal, Bravo, and NAMIC in providing hands-on training from entertainment professionals to inner-city high school students. This two-day intensive workshop held at The Cable Center was the first in a ten-market series. The Denver workshop received national media attention as it raised diversity awareness in television media.

The students were taken through the basics of television production including production planning, camera angles, pre-production checklist, basic lighting, and frame size. Students then chose their roles: cameraman, actor, sound, lighting, or writer. The students worked in teams to create several public service announcements. These spots were sent to Bravo’s New York offices for professional editing. If they pass Bravo’s strict production standards, the spots will run on Bravo to be seen by viewers nationwide.
