New York City : Production Workshop, February 2006

BRAVO ON THE SET, DENVER »

Bravo’s “On the Set” initiative encourages diversity in television by teaching TV production skills to minority high school students, introducing them to new career opportunities.

On February 10–11, 2006, the program came to New York City, and received a warm reception by students of Thurgood Marshall Academy, Frederick Douglass High School, and the New York City Outward Bound's Network of Expeditionary Learning Schools.

The sessions were dedicated to the memory of Jonathan M. Levin, a New York City high school teacher and the son of industry leader and Cable Television Hall of Fame inductee Gerald M. Levin.  The dedication also served to honor the senior Levin’s funding of The Programming Institute and the Jonathan M. Levin Chair in Cable Television Programming at The Cable Center.

Bravo's "On The Set" two-day production workshops are being conducted at urban high schools in ten cities throughout the school year.  As a national sponsor, The Cable Center helped to hone the program by organizing the first workshop in Denver in October.

The Cable Center’s Barco Library provided source information for the teachers’ lesson plans and classroom activity recommendations.
