Shapiro Shares his Cable Insider Perspective with Students

On January 6th, students at The University of Texas’ College of Communications were treated to an interactive and informative lecture presented by one of the cable industry’s most passionate, creative and energetic executives, EVP and General Manager of the Independent Film Channel, Evan Shapiro. 

Throughout the course of the day, over one hundred and fifty students listened intently as Shapiro provided a provocative, funny and strategic presentation with personal insight into the world of IFC’s independent content and commitment to freedom of expression.  

Drawing upon his experiences at Court TV and the IFC, Shapiro was able to relate both the challenges and successes that students may face if they choose to enter the cable industry. He also gave his cable insider perspective on the hiring process.

In addition to receiving invaluable career advice, some lucky students were given an extra gift.  Shapiro raffled off four platinum passes to Austin’s prestigious South by Southwest Film Festival.
