On February 7, 2006, Quentin Schaffer, SVP of Corporate Communications for HBO, spoke to University of Georgia students about the ever-changing landscape of cable television and the challenges that a job within the industry offers.
With HBO since 1981, Schaffer shared some of his most memorable anecdotes to students and faculty in public relations, advertising, and other communication-base fields. Some were quite humorous: when a press conference gets out of hand.....is that necessarily a bad thing?
Quentin also gave insightful career advice: he has promoted 10 assistants at HBO, proving that no job is beneath you — he advised students to "get your foot in the door, work hard, be creative, and rewards will come your way."
