A&E

Bill Harris is Senior Vice President, Production Service and Broadcast Operations, A&E Television Networks, a position he assumed in October 2000.

In this role, Mr. Harris oversees all A&E Television Networks production and broadcast operations including the in-house documentary and program production unit of HTV Productions, Archive assets and digital material management, the Engineering & Technical Services area encompassing broadcast and new media content-streaming development and satellite transmission, as well as interactive content, production and post-production services. Previously he was Vice President, Production & Network Operations.

Mr. Harris joined A&E in 1993 as Manager, Documentary Programming, supervising the launch of the Emmy Award-winning BIOGRAPHY® series to a five-night-a-week format. The following year, he was promoted to Director and, in 1996, to Vice President, Production, for both A&E and The History Channel. That year, Mr. Harris was inducted into the National Association of Minorities in Cable (NAMIC) Hall of Fame.

During 1997, Mr. Harris assumed management responsibility for AETN Network Operations in Stamford, Conn. Since then, he has played a key position in the creation, launch and management of A&E Television Networks' digital networks, The Biography Channel and History International, the expansion of A&E and The History Channel live and remote productions, as well as the strategic operating initiatives to position AETN into a new computer-based playback platform by 2001. More recently, Mr. Harris has been architect to the technical strategies to digitize satellite assets and provide playback capacity and production support to launch new AETN services, such as the History Channel en espanol, The Military History Channel and the Crime and Investigation Network and is taking the lead on all new distribution efforts, as well as ongoing initiatives to transition all AETN channels to High-Definition.

A&E Television Networks, a joint venture of The Hearst Corporation, ABC, Inc. and NBC, is an award-winning, international media company offering consumers a diverse communications environment ranging from television programming, to home videos/DVDs and music CDs, to Web sites, as well as supporting nationwide educational initiatives.
