Laybourne Shares Her Recipe for a Successful Business Plan with UCLA Business Students:  “Combine Brains and Passion”

On October 18, 2006, Geraldine Laybourne, Founder and CEO of Oxygen Network, taught UCLA Anderson School of Management students invaluable lessons about business that they may not learn from textbooks alone.

Sharing some of her experiences at Oxygen and Nickelodeon, Laybourne spoke about how following her true passions led her to where she is today.  She encouraged students to be “citizens of the world”, adding that “you have to be cognizant of what’s happening in the world at the moment.”

She challenged the students to take risks and taught them that failure is one step in the process of true innovation stating, “Don’t believe that anyone can really innovate unless they are willing to fall flat on their face.”

Over 100 students from Anderson’s Entertainment Media Association kicked off the event season with Laybourne’s guest appearance, and were treated to a pre-lecture reception, giving them opportunities to mingle with Ms. Laybourne.
