The John and Joan Goddard Cable Center Book Award is open to all individuals who have published a book related to cable television during the past year. Past winners include Cable and Satellite Television Industries, Open Cable Architecture, and Cable Cowboy: John Malone and the Rise of the Modern Cable Business.

The award committee uses the following criteria in choosing books for this award:
- Perceived value to the cable telecommunications industry of the information presented.
- Innovative approach to interpreting new or existing information.
- Depth and breadth of research.
- Excellence in writing.
- Significant contribution to the knowledge base of and about the cable telecommunications industry.
- The award will be presented at The Cable Center's Academic Awards dinner on Saturday, April 8, 2006, in Atlanta, Georgia.
- The winning author will receive an award and a check for the amount of $1,000.
- Travel expenses to and from the dinner will be paid for by The Cable Center.
John W. Goddard’s name was synonymous with Viacom Cable for three decades. After serving as president from 1980 to 1996, he retired from Viacom Cable. He served as the National Cable Television Association (NCTA) chairman from 1988 to 1989, and has been active in CTAM, the Walter Kaitz Foundation, and Cable in the Classroom. He is a board member emeritus of The Cable Center. |
