The Cable Center recognizes scholars, journalists, and industry members who make significant contributions to the cable industry. The Center currently offers the following awards:


Membership in the Cable Television Hall of Fame is an honor bestowed annually to those whose achievements have contributed significantly to the growth and development of one or more components of cable’s diverse industry and to the people, communities, organizations and institutions it serves. The John and Joan Goddard Cable Center Book Award highlights authors writing about the cable industry by recognizing the most successful book that focuses on some aspect of cable telecommunications. This award has been presented annually since 1997 at The Cable Center’s Academic Seminar, during the NCTA National Show. More »


The Magness Institute sponsors an annual Dissertation Research Grant program that encourages and supports the development of scholarly inquiry focused on cable telecommunications. Named after Austin W. Shanfelter, this grant provides financial support for Ph.D. candidates exploring some aspect of cable telecommunications for their dissertation. More »


The Justin DeSorrento Internship provides students with an introduction to the dynamics of the cable telecommunications industry. To qualify for the internship, the student must be an upper classman pursuing a degree in business, telecommunications, or another related field. The internship includes basic training in the cable industry and hands-on experience. More »
