Shannon's Internship Recap

Shannon Ozaki at Comcast

by Shannon Ozaki, 2005 DeSorrento Intern

"As my time as an intern in the Justin DeSorrento Internship program comes to an end, I am able to reflect upon the incredible experiences I gathered over the course of this amazing opportunity. From gathering an understanding of the cable business at the NCTA National Show in April to gaining real-world experience at Comcast, I accumulated a wealth of knowledge and skills pertaining to working in cable. I feel fortunate to have such a rare opportunity to apply learned knowledge to a work situation. In my six months at Comcast, I drew upon my initial cable introduction and education at The Cable Center in order to research and compose stories for the employee newsletter.

"In addition, I had the wonderful opportunity to be engaged in some of Comcast's many community outreach projects. From a scholarship fund to a company-wide volunteer day, Comcast truly cares about the communities it serves. I assisted the PR department in organizing the Colorado Market's Comcast Cares Day in October, in which 30,000 Comcast volunteers nationwide participate in community service. I also helped Comcast and The Cable Center participate in a high school photo contest in celebration of Hispanic Heritage Month. All of these experiences reminded me that Comcast not only provides services and products to its customers, but also works actively to give back to the local communities.

"At the completion of the internship program, I was asked to become a part-time employee at Comcast. I am excited to continue working with the public relations department, and receive free cable and Internet too!"
