CasabiBroadband-Enabled Home Phone Systems

Overview:
Mom looks at the phone and sees four new voice mail messages. Scanning the visual list of messages, she selects and plays just the message from her teenage son. After hearing from him that the soccer team is coming for dinner, she then selects the Yellow Page icon and clicks-to-call for local pizza delivery, sets the DVR to record a soccer movie for the team, and text messages Dad to tell him to come home early…all from the screen of her home phone.

New broadband-enabled home phones can do dramatically more than just send and receive calls. What was once a single purpose, simple device is now a multi-function personalized communications tool. Consumers can access many of the same features found on mobile smart-phones and PDAs from a low cost device designed to integrate with voice services.

Services available include personal phonebooks that can sync with their mobile phone; ‘yellow pages’ with category and keyword search; visual voice mail; e-mail and instant messaging (IM); wake up calls and alarms, weather forecasts, news and traffic updates; personalized ring tones and wallpapers; text messaging from home to mobile phones; and the availability of parental control over the entire home phone system. Additionally, the audio channels on the handset can be used for streaming audio, voice messaging and chat, and Podcasts.

The phone system can also serve as a command center for the consumer’s triple-play of voice, video, and high-speed Internet services. Installation and activation, DVR programming, billing management, promotional alerts or service enhancements are all managed by the consumer from the screen of their phone.

In this display, Casabi demonstrates how broadband enabled home phones are transformed into a platform for the delivery of web-based and integrated carrier services. The full color screens and multi-function keys are entirely managed by the network, providing users with updated content, new features and carrier branding without requiring device software upgrades or user downloads.

Technology displayed:
A suite of communications services are brought via the broadband connection to each displayed handset, transforming the basic telephone into a smart and complete communications resource. This technology can deliver premium subscription services such as interactive games, educational tools and specialized information like recipes and Podcasts, as well as customized carrier applications like visual voice mail and network-based address book.
