1975 – Home Box Office’s transmission of the Thrilla from Manila, the Muhammad Ali-Joe Frazier heavyweight fight from the Philippines in September 1975, set the stage for satellite delivery.

1957 – The Bartlesville, Okla., Telemovie Experiment begins, with the showing of Pajama Game, starring Doris Day on September 4. This experiment was a test site for pay television.
