Welcome to the new Barco Library blog. Periodically we will be giving you information about what is going on in the Library--for example new books, new donations, interesting facts, trivia and photos from our collection. We hope you will find the entries fun, amusing and informative. So let's jump right in!

For those of you who aren't familiar with The Barco Library, http://www.cablecenter.org/about/barcoLibrary.cfm, it is named for George and Yolanda Barco, father and daughter cable pioneers and lawyers from Pennsylvania who owned the Meadville Master Antenna Company. George began his company after he became frustrated at not being able to view TV in a hotel room. Through the hotel manager, he found out about the master antenna system and wondered if it would work back home in Pennsylvania. Eventually, the Barcos had one of the largest systems in the nation. George also is one of the founders of The Cable Center

Dedicated to chronicling cable's varied and colorful history, The Barco Library is considered a special collections library because not only does it have books and periodicals, but it also holds a vast collection of photographs, cable equipment, marketing artifacts, media and oral history interviews. The Library is open to the public, but in today's digital world, we find many of our customers are virtual. However, we always welcome visitors to Denver to tour the Library in person and see all we have to offer. Just call us to make an appointment.

In the weeks to come, we hope you will discover some interesting facts about cable, as well as items and artifacts from our past, and that you will be inspired to contribute your industry-related information and items to the Barco Library.
