Accounting and Finance for Operations Managers

Course description: One of The Cable Center’s most common offerings, this fundamental course provides participants with a comprehensive overview of basic accounting and finance principles as they apply to modern cable systems. This course features specialized accounting and financial problems, policies, and conventions. Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to interpret accounting and financial statements and describe how these statements are used to indicate the company’s financial health.

Course length: 3 days of instruction

Course objectives:

  • Review the primary role of accounting.
  • Discuss the interrelationships of key financial ratios.
  • Recognize revenues and expenses.
  • Define key financial concepts.
  • Use basic budgeting tools and techniques.
  • Use simple techniques for evaluating projects.
  • Evaluate a capital project using net present value and rate of return.
  • Apply risk analysis techniques to common business scenarios.
