RONALD RIZZUTO, SENIOR FELLOW
The Cable Center

Ron Rizzuto is Professor of Finance at the Daniels College of Business at the University of Denver. His specialty areas are capital expenditure analysis, mergers and acquisitions, and corporate financial planning. Dr. Rizzuto has extensive consulting experience in evaluating the financial viability of new technologies related to the cable telecommunications industry (video, voice, and data). He is also one of the leading authorities in the U.S. on the economics of telecommunications overbuilds. Dr. Rizzuto has consulted with numerous companies on a variety of strategic initiatives, including CableLabs, Charter Communications, City and County of Denver, Connective Communications, Net Fone, Sweetwater Cable, Tele-Communications Inc./ AT&T Broadband, Time Warner Cable, and United GlobalCom. In addition, he has co-authored two books, Costs, Benefits, and Long-Term Sustainability of Municipal Cable Television Overbuilds and Managing by the Numbers. He has published numerous articles and essays that have appeared in scholarly and professional journals and books. Dr. Rizzuto holds a BS in Finance from the University of Colorado and an MBA and Ph.D. in Finance and Economics from New York University. back to top »

THERESA CONLEY
The Cable Center

Theresa Conley has recently joined the University of Denver as a full-time faculty member in the Department of Marketing at the prestigious Daniels College of Business, University of Denver. Her scholarly interests include: Innovation theory, marketing communications, and business development. Theresa also applies her professional corporate experience and academic background as a Marketing Consultant for a variety of small to mid-sized businesses. Her consulting practice focuses on product development, segmentation analysis, branding, and positioning.

Ms. Conley came to DU after a lengthy career in corporate business. Most recently, she was Vice President, New Product Development and Marketing at AT&T Broadband, and was responsible for product strategy and marketing planning for a number of high-profile product launches including high speed data services, digital cable, interactive TV, digital recording, and video-on-demand. Previous to AT&T, Theresa was the Vice President of Marketing for TCI Internet Services (high-speed data service development and launch of @Home). Additionally, she has held a variety of marketing leadership positions at U S WEST, now Qwest.

Theresa has spoken extensively at national industry forums on product development and commercialization, consumer marketing, brand awareness, and technology business trends.

Theresa has received numerous prestigious industry awards, and in 2001 she was the recipient of the Women in Cable and Telecommunications “Woman of the Year-Walk of Fame” award. Theresa serves on the Board of Directors (Business Advisory) for the Emily Griffith Foundation – with a mission of providing financial support to the Emily Griffith Opportunity School (an 80 year-old, non-profit institution educating thousands of economically challenged and international students). Additionally, she has been awarded repeatedly for outstanding teaching and student mentoring.

JOYCE FRAKES
The Cable Center

Dr. Frakes is a graduate of Queen’s University in Canada. She received her MA and Ph.D. from Stanford University and her MAcc from the University of Denver. Currently she teaches both undergraduate and graduate courses in the area of financial reporting. Her primary focus has been the development of accounting curricula for both accounting majors and those with little or no accounting background. She has been recognized for her excellence in teaching by numerous awards, including the Cecil Puckett Award from the Daniels College of Business and the Huizingh Award for Excellence in Teaching Accounting.

Frakes has been involved in the development and delivery of customized accounting seminars for almost twenty years. She has participated in several certificate programs for the Center for Management Development at the University of Denver and for Women in Cable and Telecommunications. She has provided in-house programs for numerous companies such as Time Warner, US West, HBO, Showtime, Jones Intercable, and ICG.

Frakes is a member of the American Accounting Association, the American Institute of Certified Accountants, and the Colorado Society of CPAs. back to top »

RJ GRAHAM
The Cable Center

Dr. RJ Graham specializes in leadership development, executive coaching, teamwork, organizational communication, conflict management and strategy design to optimize human resource potential. She has held leadership positions for two Fortune 500 companies and has extensive experience in strategic, operational and tactical planning; comprehensive project management; and all aspects of employee development at every level of the organization.

Her experience as an independent corporate consultant extends over a decade, providing program design, facilitation, and keynote addresses for over 40 organizations, including international corporations, small businesses, family-owned and operated firms, and not-for-profit foundations. Additionally, she continues as a professor at the University of Denver where she has taught both psychology and business courses since 1987.

Academic credentials for RJ include a BA degree in Psychology from Dana College in Blair, Nebraska: an MBA from the University of Denver’s Executive Program; and a PhD in psychology from the University of Denver. She is a licensed psychologist (CO 1812), and a credentialed neuropsychologist. RJ has co-authored, articles and conference papers on teamwork and effective leadership behaviors. She is currently researching material a book on ethical leadership practices and a book on women and leadership. back to top »

MADIE D. GUSTAFSON
The Cable Center

Madie D. Gustafson is a partner with Cole, Raywid and Braverman, a law firm that specializes in telecommunication and cable law. Cole Raywid has offices in Washington D.C., Los Angeles and Denver. Before joining Cole Raywid, Ms. Gustafson was Senior Vice President-Franchising and Local Government Affairs of AT&T Broadband where she was responsible for local government relations, franchise renewal, transfer and compliance for AT&T Broadband. She entered the cable industry fifteen years ago as corporate counsel for United Cable Television Corporation. She subsequently served as General Counsel of United Artists Cable Systems and Senior Vice President of Franchising and Local Government Affairs of Tele-Communications, Inc. She was National Treasurer and a member of the Executive Committee of Women In Cable & Telecommunications. Ms. Gustafson also provides training in the areas of franchise renewal, transfer and compliance, government affairs and negotiation skills. She taught Telecommunication Law at the University of Denver in 2004 and currently serves as Chairperson and President of the Board of Directors of Stories on Stage and is on the Executive Committee of the Council of 100 for Northwestern University. back to top »

CARL LARSON
The Cable Center

Carl Larson is Professor Emeritus of Human Communications Studies and past Dean of Social Sciences at the University of Denver. Larson's main research activities have focused on groups and teams, and on negotiation and collaborative processes. He has co-authored seven books on communication, including Teamwork: What Must Go Right/What Can Go Wrong and Successful Communication and Negotiation. His most recent book, Collaborative Leadership (with David Chrislip), published by Jossey-Bass in 1994, reports research on successful collaborative projects and their leadership. Larson does extensive consulting with both private and public sector organizations on teamwork and collaboration. In 1997, he received the Driscoll Master Education Award, given by the students of University of Denver to the outstanding professor of the year. He earned his BA degree (1961) in Speech and Drama at Idaho State University and both his MA degree (1962) and Ph.D. (1965) in Communication at the University of Kansas. back to top »
