Denver kids scored a triple play with ESPN’s “Play
Your Way” campaign, which tackled youth obesity and created
and supported programs that provided youth with games to play,
places to play, and stuff to play with. Members of the Denver
Big Brothers and Big Sisters organizations received donations
of sports equipment from major league sporting organizations
including the NHL, MLS, and the NBA, along with donations made
on behalf of the local community, at an event held on June
23 at the Denver ESPNZone.
The Programming Institute at The Cable Center arranged to
have the head coach of the University of Denver 2004 NCAA Ice
Hockey Champs, George Gwozdecky, and several members of his
team attend the event and meet with the kids. Coach Gwozdecky
offered fitness tips and entertained everyone with his stories
about the team’s recent trip to the White House. Former
NFL player and current ESPN host Mark Schelereth was also on
board to share his childhood experiences and gave some great
examples of staying fit.
After a healthy dinner, the kids were treated to an ESPNZone
Game Card and headed to the game floor for the rest of the
evening.
“Our partnership with ESPN and Comcast provided us with
a great opportunity to reach out to the community and provide
these kids with much-needed sports equipment,” said Susan
Greene, Senior Vice President, Director of the Programming
Institute at The Cable Center and Jonathan M. Levin Chair in
Cable Programming. “We are honored to be associated with
such a worthy cause.” |
