    Are you an Intrapreneur?

While an entrepreneur is defined as a person who establishes a new business with an innovative idea or concept, an intrapreneur undertakes innovations on behalf of their organization. Both entrepreneurs and intrapreneurs share similar qualities like conviction, creativity, zeal and insight, and both are instrumental in driving innovation.

The Cable Center’s Intrapreneurship Academy (IA) provides rising stars in the cable industry with the skills and mindset to become intrapreneurs, to envision and effect change, and to innovate within their organizations’ existing corporate structures. Innovation, as defined by IA, can apply to processes, products and programs, as well as technologies. “A core tenet of the curriculum is that innovation is a process, and this process can be learned and honed”, said Janice Silver, IA program director. “IA is looking for candidates that have displayed these intrapreneurial behaviors and attributes”.

The IA curriculum is organized into three sections. It begins with a two day in-person kick-off at The Cable Center, followed by 7 weeks of online supported-study period, culminating in a two and a half day capstone at the Cable Center. The program is open to early to mid-career cable industry professionals (MVPDs, vendors or content providers) from any department or discipline – both people managers and individual contributors. There are two available 2018 sessions, spring and fall. To learn more, view our academy overview video and apply online now.

Meet June Travis! 2018 Recipient of the Bresnan Ethics in Business Award

The Cable Center is delighted to announce that June Travis, former EVP and COO of the National Cable Television Association (NCTA), has been named the 2018 Bresnan Ethics in Business Award recipient. The award honors the late William J. Bresnan, founder and chairman of Bresnan Communications and longtime chairman of the board of The Cable Center. Travis will be presented the industry accolade at the 21st annual Cable Hall of Fame celebration on April 4.

“I am honored to be recognized as this year’s Bresnan Ethics in Business Award recipient. It is particularly special because it is dedicated to Bill Bresnan, a friend and colleague whom I admired greatly. He displayed integrity and high ethics in every aspect of his life. I am humbled and very touched to be named this year’s recipient,” said June Travis.

“June has helped shape the cable television industry with her vision and guidance,” said Frank Drendel, chair of the board and founder of CommScope, Inc., chairman of the Bresnan Award selection committee, and past Bresnan Award recipient. “She demonstrated ethics in every aspect of her career and we are thrilled to present her this year’s Bresnan Ethics in Business Award.”

June E. Travis served as EVP and COO of NCTA from 1994 until she retired from the cable television industry in 1999. She has also been very active in the industry, serving as an officer and board member for a number of cable television industry boards, including CommScope, NCTA, C-SPAN, Cable in the Classroom, TechCorps and Women in Cable Telecommunications (WICT).
