  • CHOF 2018 2342018 Cable Hall of Fame – CHOF Takes NYC!

The 2018 Cable Hall of Fame was hosted April 4 at the Ziegfeld Ballroom in NYC, and we can’t stop spreading the news.

The New York evening was spent dining, toasting, and celebrating our six Honorees and Bresnan Award recipient, whose acceptance speeches were all spectacular and made the night even more special. Thank you for celebrating with us as we formally inducted Breaking Bad (Vince Gilligan), AMC; Nomi Bergman, Advance Newhouse; John Bickham, Charter Communications; Balan Nair, Liberty Latin America; Richard Plepler, HBO; and Neil Smit, Comcast Corporation into the Cable Hall of Fame, and presented June Travis with the Bill Bresnan Ethics in Business Award. Their contributions to the cable industry are legendary, and we are grateful for the industry’s enthusiastic support of this milestone.

The event raised over $1M, welcomed more than 540 guests, and our exuberant emcee, Chef Carla Hall, lit up the stage.

Congratulations, Class of 2018! To see more photos and videos from the 2018 Hall of Fame, click here

IA Spring Kickoff - Planting Seeds of Innovation this Spring!

Class is now in session! On April 17, we kicked off the spring semester of our Intrapreneurship Academy and welcomed 18 new Intrapreneurs to The Cable Center. Their first act of collaboration was to select a class motto. After brainstorming and voting, we are proud to dub this class, “Unlimited Cablebilities.” Our Intrapreneurs are now well on their way to completing the course, working together over the next couple of months to innovate, lead, and effect positive change within their organizations. We’ll be highlighting their journeys throughout the program on social media, as well as posting “Intraviews” of our current students and esteemed alumni, so stay tuned!

C5 Spring Meeting - Sharing Best Practices

On April 24 and 25, The Cable Center Customer Centric Consortium (C5) gathered at The Center for their spring meeting to discuss customer experience management and development in the cable industry. Our 36 attendees included executives from some of the leading cable operators in the U.S. (CableOne, Comcast, Cox, GCI, MCTV, Mediacom, Midco, Spectrum Enterprise/Charter, Vyve Broadband); Canada (Rogers); Europe (Liberty); and South America (Cablevision Argentina, Net Serviços Brasil).

We heard from Liberty Global CEO and chairman, Mike Fries, who shared his advice and insights on improving the customer journey as Graham Tutton, vice president of customer insights at Comcast and C5 chair, moderated the thoughtful presentation. We also took a fun fieldtrip to CableLabs, where we learned how technological advancement continues to positively enhance the customer experience.

This semi-annual gathering was made possible through the efforts of Cable Center Senior Fellows, Drs. Charles Patti (Cox Chair), Ron Rizzuto, and Maria van Dessel. It was a productive and enriching two-day meeting, and we look forward to when we all meet again in the fall!

C-SPAN Bus Visits the Cable Center

Beep beep! The C-SPAN Bus stopped at The Cable Center on May 1 as a part of its 50 Capitals Tour around the U.S. We had a fun afternoon exploring the Bus, enjoying the sunshine, and having delicious pizza from our friends at Rocky Mountain Slices food truck. The Bus is a fantastic educational exhibit and we loved talking and learning about all things C-SPAN. One of our Intrapreneurs, Jake Kintzel of T-Mobile/Layer3 TV, even came to check out the wonder on wheels! The last time the C-SPAN Bus visited The Cable Center was in 2002 (see photo of yellow bus below), and we hope they come and visit us again soon.
