The Chairman’s Campaign was launched by the late Bill Bresnan in January 2007 with a lead gift of $1 million from the Comcast Foundation. Our goal is to raise a $10 million self-sustaining endowment for The Cable Center.
“The Cable Center has built unique and compelling programs that educate and excite people about the cable industry,” said Bill Bresnan. “These programs reach out to universities and industry members nationwide, and with the Chairman’s Campaign we hope to grow this outreach.”
The funds raised from the Chairman’s Campaign will be used to create an endowment that will provide for the operational and administrative needs of The Cable Center. This will ensure the maintenance and growth of our high quality, popular educational programs, including the Cable Mavericks Lecture Series.
Will The Cable Center be self-sustaining after this campaign is complete?
Yes. Our goal is to build an endowment that allows us to be self-sustaining, supporting our operational and administrative needs.
Our programs and services will, of course, change as our industry’s needs evolve, perhaps affecting our operational and administrative make up. If The Cable Center adds programs in the future or adopts a special initiative, these will be self-sustaining.
Why an operational endowment?
Earlier campaigns raised money directly for the building and programs, but like many nonprofit organizations, the need for administrative funding was not included. Once we complete the $10 million campaign, the endowment will generate about $500,000 (5%) annually to run our business operations, which includes salaries for the administration, upgrades to the facility, and operation of The Barco Library.
Why should I support the Chairman’s Campaign?
The Cable Center serves a multitude of functions. It is our industry’s archivist, the steward of cable’s legacy, home to the Cable Hall of Fame, champion of customer care, trainer and educator, and a goodwill ambassador. Simply put, The Cable Center is the place where all cable professionals can come together to learn, reflect, appreciate our accomplishments, and share ideas and stories. As a nonprofit organization, we depend on your support.
