Student Ambassadors To Help Greet Guests at Event

WASHINGTON, D.C. – The Cable Center will give nine students at Northern Virginia Community College (NOVA) the opportunity to experience this year's Cable Hall of Fame Celebration first-hand as student ambassadors. The students will greet, direct and check-in guests, as well as answer questions and assist with event set-up, and will also have the chance to attend The Cable Show the next day. The Cable Center hosts the 16th annual Cable Hall of Fame Celebration on Monday, June 10, 2013 at The Ronald Reagan Building in Washington, DC, in conjunction with The Cable Show 2013.
"The Cable Center welcomes these NOVA students to the Cable Hall of Fame celebration, and is thrilled they will be on hand to help ensure the event runs smoothly," said Jana Henthorn, senior vice president of academic and industry outreach for The Cable Center. "As we gather with leaders from throughout the cable industry to recognize this year's Cable Hall of Fame honorees, this is a tremendous opportunity for the students to meet, listen, learn and network with top executives."
The Cable Center began its relationship with Northern Virginia Community College in 2008, when it brought Brian Lamb, Executive Chairman of C-SPAN, 2000 Cable Hall of Fame inductee, and the 2013 recipient of the Bresnan Ethics in Business Award, to the college for a Cable Mavericks lecture. Lamb was eager to share his experiences and expertise with community college students, and NOVA welcomed him with red carpet treatment. The partnership between The Cable Center and NOVA has continued to grow, and the college also provided student ambassadors to assist at The Cable Center's Masters Forum event in New York the past two years.
"Our collaboration with The Cable Center has been invaluable to us in terms of how it has helped to elevate the educational level and provide experiential life experiences for our students that could not have happened otherwise," said Lucy Holsonbake, an instructor in the communication studies and theatre program at NOVA-Alexandria. "These students represent the true character of NOVA, and are so appreciative of this genuine opportunity to learn and have fun while working to help The Cable Center. It also gives them the chance to demonstrate their sense of service by giving back to the cable industry."
"NOVA has been a phenomenal partner over the past few years, and their students have risen to assist us on many occasions with grace and diligence," continued Henthorn. "The Cable Hall of Fame Celebration and The Cable Show will be an unforgettable experience for them, and we are excited to be able to provide them this exceptional opportunity."
The students are participating as part of The Cable Center's DeSorrento Opportunity for Excellence Award, which honors the memory of Justin DeSorrento by identifying motivated students who are interested in entering the cable industry.
The Cable Hall of Fame Celebration is sponsored by A+E Networks, Discovery Communications and One World Sports. Media sponsors include CableFAX, Multichannel News, and MediaBiz. For more information on the Cable Hall of Fame Celebration, visit, or call 303-871-7473.
