Cable Center Rounds Out Cable Hall of Fame Class of 2018

A CEO with a Recipe for Success and a Successful Series About a Recipe for Meth Join Honorees

DENVER – The Cable Center announced today that is has rounded out its Cable Hall of Fame class of 2018 with a CEO with a recipe for success – Balan Nair, new CEO of Liberty Latin America; and a successful Emmy and Golden Globe Award-winning television series about a recipe for meth – “Breaking Bad,” Vince Gilligan creator, AMC.

“Breaking Bad” and Nair join the four previously announced honorees: Nomi Bergman, Senior Executive, Advance/Newhouse; John Bickham, President and Chief Operating Officer, Charter Communications; Richard Plepler, Chairman & CEO, HBO; and Neil Smit, Vice Chairman, Comcast Corporation. The honorees will be inducted during the 21st annual Cable Hall of Fame celebration, held on April 4, in New York City at the Ziegfeld Ballroom.

And ’Breaking Bad’ was one of television’s most innovative series. It had an immense impact on how we watch and consume television, and we are excited to pay tribute to this inimitable series at the 2018 Cable Hall of Fame.”

Currently Chief Technology & Innovation Officer for Liberty Global, Balan Nair will assume the position of President and CEO of Liberty Latin America once its split-off from Liberty Global is complete at the end of the year. Mr. Nair has nearly 25 years of experience in the telecommunications, internet, cable and media industries. As one of Liberty Global’s top executives over the last 10 years, he has managed the group’s fixed and mobile network operations, broadband and video product development, and venture investments. He currently oversees a workforce of 7,500 employees and an operating and capital budget of more than 5 billion Euros in Europe, as well as the technology and product roadmap for Latin America.

“Breaking Bad,” which first premiered on AMC in January 2008, follows the story of a desperate man who turns to a life of crime to secure his family’s financial future. Over its five-season run, the series garnered 16 Primetime Emmy® Awards, including the 2014 and 2013 Emmy® for Outstanding Drama Series; two Golden Globe® Awards, two Peabodys and was named to the American Film Institute’s (AFI) list of the “Top 10 Programs of the Year” in 2008, 2010, 2011, 2012, 2013 and 2014, among other accolades. The series stars four-time Emmy®-winner Bryan Cranston; three-time Emmy®-winner Aaron Paul; two-time Emmy®-winner Anna Gunn; Dean Norris; Betsy Brandt; RJ Mitte, Jonathan Banks and Bob Odenkirk.“Breaking Bad” is executive produced by showrunner Vince Gilligan, Mark Johnson (Gran Via) and Michelle MacLaren and produced by Sony Pictures Television. The series will celebrate the 10th anniversary of its premiere in January of 2018.

The 21st annual Cable Hall of Fame will be held on April 4, 2018 in New York City at the Ziegfeld Ballroom. Recently renovated, the Ziegfeld Ballroom opened this fall in the former Ziegfeld Theater building. The Ziegfeld hosted Hollywood's top blockbuster movie premieres for decades, earning acclaim as one of the most celebrated venues in the world. The Ziegfeld Ballroom will be the home for the Cable Hall of Fame through at least 2020.
