The Cable Center is now accepting online applications for the fall 2018 Intrapreneurship Academy class

Nine-week program teaches emerging cable industry leaders to innovate within their companies.

DENVER – The Cable Center’s Intrapreneurship Academy (TCC-IA), an innovation-focused professional development program designed to educate and empower the next generation of industry leaders, is now accepting online applications for the fall 2018 session. The TCC-IA fall class will run from August 14 to October 11, 2018, and will teach early and mid-career professionals how to effectively undertake innovation within their companies. The online application submission deadline is July 6, 2018.

The nine-week program welcomes cable industry rising stars from any department or discipline, from communications and public affairs, to software engineering and product development, to M&A and sales, to content development and more. The program is open to candidates from all areas of the cable industry – including MVPDs and operators, programmers and content providers, equipment vendors, and cable associations – to both people managers and individual contributors. The maximum class size is 20 people.

“The curriculum is built on the tenet that innovation is a process that can be learned, practiced, and honed,” says Robyn Bolton, Intrapreneurship Academy dean. “Our participants will learn key concepts and practical tools to cultivate creativity, uncover constraints, design a business model, assess and minimize risk, and effectively articulate ideas. This process will enable graduates to work through and advance innovation projects within their organizations.”

Through a combined in-person and online learning format, the TCC-IA “Intrapreneurs” will gain knowledge and skills as they apply them to real-world projects. They will also hear from cable industry luminaries known as “Innovation Laureates,” who will share their insights and the lessons learned from their ground-breaking careers. Past speakers include: Quentin Schaffer, EVP corporate communications, HBO; Evan Shapiro, founder and owner, eshapTV; Phil McKinney, president and CEO, CableLabs; and Peter Kiley, VP affiliate relations and communications, C-SPAN.

“One of my favorite aspects of the class was hearing all of the speakers,” says Joel Tyus, senior product manager at Evolution Digital, who graduated from the fall 2017 TCC-IA class. “Gaining insight from some of the leaders in the cable industry is a powerful part of the program. Everyone who spoke genuinely wanted to impart his or her knowledge to us, which still inspires me.”

In a recent study conducted by The Cable Center, 93 percent of TCC-IA graduates said they plan to apply the skills they gained in their current role. 79 percent said they now have a positive or much more positive view of the cable industry as a result of their participation in the program, while 64 percent said they are more likely to pursue a long-term career with their employer after participating.

TCC-IA is part of a larger initiative, the Community of Innovators (COI), a first-of-its-kind program for the cable industry, which connects people and ideas to advance innovation through educational programs and support, targeting three primary communities: high-potential industry employees, the startup community, and university students.
