Community of Innovators

The Community of Innovators (COI), a first-of-its-kind program for the cable industry, was designed with the industry’s leaders at the center. These trailblazers and top executives connect the program’s other three communities—students, the industry’s rising stars, and entrepreneurs.

Through community engagement, custom programming, and education, COI aims to promote the entrepreneurial spirit on which the cable industry was built.

“The Cable Center tells the story of the dynamic cable industry. But the story is not just about the past. The Community of Innovators program allows us to focus on the exciting future of the industry, while also celebrating its innovative legacy.” -Jana Henthorn, The Cable Center’s president and CEO

COI leverages the influence and expertise of industry trailblazers and top executives to inspire, inform, and engage its communities through four primary components.

Intrapreneurship Academy
Intrapreneurship Academy The cornerstone of the Community of Innovators, The Cable Center’s Intrapreneurship Academy (IA) is a future-focused leadership program designed to educate and empower the cable industry’s rising stars to become intrapreneurs. Mavericks Lecture Series
It was the late 70s. Comcast co-founder Julian Brodsky’s company had just beat out telephone company GTE for a franchise in Venice, Florida. Upset by the loss, GTE refused to let them on the poles to install cable in the Florida community. Instead of fighting them on it, they decided to bury the cable in the sandy ground—creating the first 100% underground system. Julian Brodsky shared this and may other stories and lessons from his career to a captive audience of students and professionals during the 2017 Mavericks Lecture Series.

Through this series, COI gives industry trailblazers and top executives a platform to share stories of initiative and innovation that illustrate the cable industry’s impact, imagination, and pioneering roots.
