SAY YES TO THE PROM
Imagine a day of mentoring, fashion advice from TLC’s Monte Durham, the opportunity to select a free prom dress while getting your hair and makeup professionally done, and then walking the runway. For 40 Lincoln High School girls this dream became a reality on March 19, when they participated in SAY YES TO THE PROM.
The Cable Center was chosen to partner with TLC and parent company Discovery Communications to host its 2015 SAY YES TO THE PROM (SYTTP) event in Denver. Modeled after TLC’s hugely successful Say Yes to the Dress franchise, this annual philanthropic initiative promotes confidence and a positive self-image for deserving high school girls, while also providing them with a prom dress and professional style advice. Now in its fourth year, SAY YES TO THE PROM gave a select group of deserving high school girls, the opportunity to develop mentoring relationships with industry professionals, build their self-confidence, receive makeovers and of course, “say yes to the prom dress”. (Dresses were donated by the community, members of the SYTTP Steering Committee, Discovery employees and sponsors.)
The day culminated with the girls taking part in a runway reveal that gave each girl the opportunity to show off her own personal style. Monte Durham, Fashion Director and star of TLC’s Say Yes to the Dress: Atlanta, officially presented the girls to the audience made up of state, city and school officials, mentors, volunteers, partners and members of the press.
